Food Poem by Helen Renaux

Ode to a Lobster

You came from the sea
Grey, ugly and wet
You’re now on my plate
Red, gorgeous and yet –

I feel guilty.

Why stare at me so?
I didn’t catch you
Nor did I kill you
I just love you – to eat.
